Abstract Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are transcription factors that belong to the family of nuclear hormone receptors and exist as three isoforms namely PPARα, PPARβ and PPARγ. PPARs function as key regulators of glucose and lipid metabolism and are potential targets for drugs used in the treatment of glucose and lipid metabolism dysregulation. PPARs also regulate the expression of genes involved in the process of cellular proliferation and differentiation.
