<div><p><i>BLK</i>, which encodes B lymphoid kinase, was recently identified in genome wide association studies as a susceptibility gene for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and risk alleles mapping to the <i>BLK</i> locus result in reduced gene expression.
