Histological structure of the pyloric region.

<p>(A) Section through the stomach wall at the border between the corpus - <i>C</i> and pylorus - <i>P</i>. Note the differences in shape and depth of gastric pits between the regions. The muscularis consisted of three layers: oblique - <i>OL</i>, longitudinal - <i>LL</i>, and circular - <i>CL</i>. (B) The myenteric plexus situated between the circular and longitudinal layers of the muscularis. (C) The pyloric mucosa with very deep, branched gastric pits and short pyloric glands. (D) Endocrine cell with strong acidophiclic cytoplasm in the pyloric gland. (E) The pyloric glands and the lamina muscularis of the mucosa consisting of circular - <i>CL</i> and longitudinal layers - <i>LL</i>.
