Generalizability of a Measure of Work-related Subjective Experience for People with Psychiatric Disabilities

The objective of this paper is to investigate the generalizability of a measure of work-related subjective experiences originally designed for people with psychiatric disabilities. Generalizability was assessed via reference group psychometric properties in a sample of healthy working age students recruited at a university campus (n=109). Method: Interviews covered socio-demographics, general health and work-related subjective experiences. Results: The new measure had adequate properties when applied to a non-clinical reference population of working age students, where 84.4% worked part time. The measure had moderate criterion validity, good test-re-test reliability and good internal consistency when applied to this group. Conclusion: The measure is suitable for research applications in supported employment and vocational rehabilitation settings, for use with healthy adults and disadvantaged groups other than people with psychiatric disabilities
