The Kawa Model is a perfect illustration of the adage, ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover’. Do not be fooled by the beautiful, serene and inviting cover, within which you might expect to find images of life as an easily flowing river. Just like all rivers, the effect of wind and tide can make for some wild, unexpected, uncomfortable and exciting rides (one of us is a sailor, so we know). The Kawa Model is not a book for the faint-hearted. Michael Iwama systematically sets out, from the very beginning, to turn many occupational therapy assumptions on their ‘heads’. Do not expect to be able to read this publication without having your assumptions challenged and to become a better occupational therapist for it
