During the development of the synapse, agrin and neuregulin act to build acetylcholine receptor (AChR) clusters in the postsynaptic membrane. Agrin drives AChR aggregation, while neuregulin induces AChR subunit transcription. Whilst the signalling pathways of agrin and neuregulin are distinct, we describe that neuregulin may act post-translationally to influence AChR cluster formation and stability. Agrin and neuregulin were applied to C2C12 and primary myotubes.
