<p>Results of multivariate multiple regression analysis of the macrofaunal abundance, biomass, expected species number (ES(30, 50)), number of taxa, trophic community structure (%SDFs, %SSDFs, %FF/SF, %CNV/SCV), for (a) all of the investigated areas, and for the (b) WM, (c) CM, and (d) EM basins. The contributions are shown for the significant environmental variables (i.e., the explanatory variables) according to the variability of each of the macrofauna descriptors. BPC, biopolymeric organic C; PRT/CHO, protein/carbohydrate ratio; CPRT, protein C; CCPE, phytopigment C; POC, particulate organic C; TPN, total prokaryotic number; TPB, total prokaryotic biomass; Grain, grain size; ne, not explained.</p
