HDAC inhibitors increase ARE-driven gene expression in part via NRF2.

<p><b>A,</b> Duplicate dishes of A-431 cells were treated with CI-994, Ent or vehicle control for 24 h and blotted for the indicated proteins. <b>B – F,</b> MCF7-AREc32 cells were treated with non-targeting (siNT) or NRF2 targeting (siNRF2) siRNAs and, 48 h later, they were exposed to different doses of the indicated chemicals for 24 h. The expression level of <i>Luciferase</i> (B), <i>AKR1C1</i> (C) or <i>AKR1C3</i> (D) was determined by real-time quantitative PCR. Protein levels (E & F) were determined by immunoblot.
