<p>Gene expression was assessed in U-CH1 cells maintained for at least 2 passages in either normoxic (20% O<sub>2</sub>) or hypoxic (2% O<sub>2</sub>) conditions by real-time PCR. Expression of (<b>A</b>) members of the CCN family (<i>CCN1, CCN2, CCN3, CCN5</i>), (<b>B</b>) members of the SOX transcription factor family (<i>SOX5, SOX6, SOX9</i>), (<b>C</b>) notochord markers (<i>CD24, T, AGG, FOXA1, CA12</i>) and (<b>D</b>) hypoxia inducible factor (<i>HIF1A</i>) and its downstream targets (<i>VEGF-A, GLUT1</i>) were investigated. Data is presented as the mean ±SEM, changes assessed using unpaired Student's t test; * = P≤0.05, ** = P≤0.01, *** = P≤0.001, **** = P≤0.0001 (n = 3; N = 3–4).</p
