Reliability of the motor response (M-wave) is fundamental in many reflex studies; however it has recently been shown to change during some investigations. The aim of this investigation was to determine if triceps surae stretch and voluntary contraction, or recording and analysis techniques, affect the maximal M-wave magnitude. The maximal M-wave was investigated in human gastrocnemius and soleus during different foot positions and during triceps surae contraction.
