Treatment of Lc-LUC infected hamsters with Sb^V.

<p>Hamsters were infected with 10⁷ Lc-LUC amastigotes. Thirty-five days post-infection, bioimaging was performed in individual hamsters to quantify parasite burden (<b>A</b>). Animals were then distributed into experimental groups with equivalent mean parasite burdens (<b>B</b>, <b>C</b>). At day 40, treatment was initiated with 50 mg/kg/day Sb^V (Sb 50) for 15 consecutive days. Parasite burden was quantified at day 56 through luminescence detection (<b>D</b>) and by microscopic counting of spleen smears, expressed as Leishman Donovan Units (LDU) (<b>E</b>).
