Phylogeny of host species, virulence and viral load.

<p>Virulence is measured as mean mortality of virus infected flies across all the days of the experiment. Viral load is the change in viral load between day 0 and day 2 post infection (see Figure B in <a href="http://www.plospathogens.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.ppat.1004728#ppat.1004728.s001" target="_blank">S1 Text</a> for data at each time point). <i>D</i>. <i>melanogaster</i>, the species DCV was isolated from, is highlighted in red. The common ancestor of the host species is estimated to be ~40 million years ago [<a href="http://www.plospathogens.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.ppat.1004728#ppat.1004728.ref052" target="_blank">52</a>,<a href="http://www.plospathogens.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.ppat.1004728#ppat.1004728.ref084" target="_blank">84</a>].
