<p>The paper surveyed the twenty years development of the European Union transport policy. The main objective was to help the cooperation among the member states, and by that to promote achieving the wider social and economic objectives of theUnion. During that period the number of the member-states more than dubbled, the differences between the development level of the states and regions within the EU increased even more. The simple target of interconnecting the regions and by that achieve the equalisation between the development of the regions seems to be much more far away now than twenty years earlier.
