Timing of the peritrophic matrix (PM) breakdown and defecation of bloodmeal remnants in <i>P. argentipes</i>, <i>P. orientalis</i>, <i>P. papatasi</i> and <i>S</i>. <i>schwetzi</i>.

<p>Bloodfed females were dissected at 24, 48, 72, 96, and 120 hours PBM and checked for the localization of the bloodmeal and formation of the PM. <b>Black area:</b> females with bloodmeal enclosed inside the PM, <b>white area:</b> females with the PM broken or fully degraded where the bloodmeal is in contact with midgut epithelium, <b>grey area:</b> females after defecation of bloodmeal remnants. <b>5A:</b><i>P</i>. <i>argentipes</i>, <b>5B:</b><i>P</i>. <i>orientalis</i>, <b>5C:</b><i>P</i>. <i>papatasi</i>, <b>5D:</b><i>S</i>. <i>schwetzi</i>.
