<p>We discuss here the role of users of a Scientific Workflow system in a Virtual Research Environment. Users can act both as designers and as agents of workflows. On the basis of our considerations we trace possible implementation scenarios for the enhancement of such systems and environments. We present our example implementation, with Taverna and R, of the statistical workflow developed for a study on Alien Species by LifeWatch Italy. We discuss how it could be possible to ameliorate the user interaction by means of web applications linked to Taverna.</p
