<div><p>Background</p><p>Due to their efficacy and convenience, alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been widely adopted as the primary method of hand hygiene in healthcare settings. However, alcohols lack activity against bacterial spores produced by pathogens such as <i>Clostridium difficile</i> and <i>Bacillus anthracis</i>.
