A probe, 39F/R, amplified 7 and 9 of the 39 nt repeats in race Ct1 isolates, while race Ct0 isolates had from 2 to 12 repeats, but never 7 or 9. The number of the 39 nt repeat was determined by gel electrophoresis and verified by sequencing of DNA extracted from gel bands.</p
