La irrupción del ferrocarril como sistema de transporte motorizado incentivó el desarrollo territorial de los países más industrializados. En el presente artículo se cuantifican los cambios en la accesibilidad territorial ferroviaria, con la finalidad de obtener nuevos instrumentos que permitan entender la evolución demográfica. El ámbito de estudio es Inglaterra y Gales en el período 1871-1931. Para ello, se parte de bases cartográficas exhaustivas digitalizadas en SIG de cada década que incluyen estaciones, líneas férreas y unidades administrativas con datos de los diferentes censos.
