Periodontitis is a bacterial biofilm induced inflammatory disease that results in the destruction of the periodontal components including the destruction of the PDL, cementum, gingiva, and alveolar bone. It has been found that periodontal regeneration by conventional methods, for example, scaling, root planning, bone grafts, and barrier membranes might be effective in some cases. However, these conventional methods have shown some limitations with certain extensive cases.
