The paper begins by showing that repetition of grades is a serious problem facing primaryschools in Lesotho. It shows that repetition of grades is costly and also interferes with thesmooth running of the schools. Furthermore, the paper submits that there is no policy inLesotho on repetition of grades in the schools. This matter is entirely in the hands of theteachers and their various schools. It is also not very clear to educators as to whetherretention is the best remedy for educational problems facing poor or slow learning in theclassrooms. The paper notes that the major source of high retention in primary schools isattributed to poor teaching strategies as well as insufficient teaching aids in schools. ...
