<p>Inside a woodlot, adult tree was randomly selected. Then, the diameter of the tree, at 4 feet from the ground, was measured. The diameter was measured by holding a measuring tape to the tree and recording the distance from one end to another. After, the canopy coverage was measured by forming a square using thumb and index finger of both hands, and holding it up towards the sky. The percentage of sky covered by the tree inside the square was estimated and recorded. Next, the nearest sapling tree of the same species as the adult tree was found and the distance from the adult tree to the sapling was measured and recorded.
