Ethnomathematics Program: weightings of educational practice

The aim of this present work is investigating the interest and motivation for learning, awakened in pupils when the educator practice is guided by the ethnomathematics perspective. The main question is: Can an ethnomathematic approach awaken enthusiasm in pupils, causing it to become more critic and active in building their knowledge? The methodology that guides the investigation is qualitative, based on technical arising of the ethnographic case study. Theoretical contributions that support the investigation are from the scientific methodology and from ethnomathematics. The research material is composed by: researcher’s field diary, audio recording of participant observation, interviews reports of community residents and students parents, highlighting the material produced by students. This study was developed on an 8º year of high school of rural community. During the work were prioritized the ethnomathematics concepts of the Ethnomathematic Program, which establish a link exchange, where the lecturers inserts themselves on the reality of pupils in a way that promote an appreciation of their identity and a commitment to their learning. The educator investigates and values the ideas of pupils throughout dialogues. There are challenges for the application of education with ethno mathematic perspective, pointed out by authors, listed and supplemented in the research. In this context, it is believed that the socio-cultural knowledge must be respect, and as they are understood their specialties, capabilities and characteristics, this can guide teaching practice, making significant process for pupils, providing appropriation of scientific knowledge. Analysis of research practice indicated that students, research subjects, when they decided contextual issues, with their way of life, felt appreciated. The conclusion is that, with continuous action of contextualized of school mathematics, from the recognition of the environment and of cultural identity, the educator has the opportunity of review their own participant condition, and therefore promote an enthusiasm for learning. Because a motivated pupil becomes active, since that the all project is guided in a significant theme.CAPESEste trabalho tem por objetivo investigar o interesse e a motivação pela aprendizagem, despertados no educando quando a prática do educador se orienta pela perspectiva etnomatemática. A questão primordial ´e: Uma abordagem etnomatemática pode despertar entusiasmo no educando, fazendo com que ele torne-se mais crítico e atuante na construção de seus conhecimentos? A metodologia que orienta a investigação é a qualitativa, baseada em técnicas oriundas do estudo de caso etnográfico. Os aportes teóricos que sustentam a investigação são oriundos da metodologia científica e da etnomatemática. O material de pesquisa é composto por: diário de campo da professora pesquisadora, gravações de áudio da observação participante, relatos de entrevistas com residentes da comunidade e pais de alunos, destacando o material produzido pelos alunos. O estudo foi desenvolvido em um 8º ano do ensino fundamental em uma escola de comunidade rural. No decorrer do trabalho foram priorizados os conceitos do Programa Etnomatemática, os quais estabelecem um vínculo de intercâmbio, onde o docente se insere na realidade do educando de forma a promover uma valorização da sua identidade e um comprometimento deste com a sua aprendizagem. O educador investiga e valoriza as ideias do educando através do diálogo. Existem desafios para aplicações de uma educação com perspectiva etnomatemática, apontados por autores, elencados e complementados na pesquisa. Nesse contexto, acredita-se que o conhecimento sociocultural deve ser respeitado, e que `a medida que sejam compreendidas suas especificidades, potencialidades e características, esse pode orientar a prática pedagógica, tornando o processo significativo para o educando, propiciando a apropriação do conhecimento científico. As análises da prática investigativa indicaram que os alunos, sujeitos da pesquisa, quando resolveram questões contextualizadas com sua forma de vida, sentiram-se valorizados. Conclui-se que, com atuação contínua de contextualização da matemática escolar, a partir do reconhecimento do meio e da identidade cultural, o educador tem a oportunidade de rever sua própria condições de participante, e assim fomentar um entusiasmo pela aprendizagem.
