Data for Bird Sightings at York University

<p>Data was recorded for the sighting of any type of bird that was within a 25m range from a 25m line transect laid at York University’s Grassland east of Stong Pond and at the Saywell Woodlot. The study was conducted on September 28, 2015 at nearly 3:00pm. The temperature was 21 degrees Celsius with a cloudy sky. At each of the locations; the Grassland and the Woodlot, 5 transects were randomly laid at least 15m away from each other. For each transect, bird sightings were conducted for 3 minutes. Individual bird species were identified using a bird book, provided by York University. In this experiment, the species of birds seen, frequency, wind speed and distance between bird and transect were all recorded. The wind speed was determined using the Beaufort Scale which ranges from under 1 mile per hour (calm) to 73 miles per hour or higher (hurricane). Overall, the experiment was successful and informational.
