<div><p>The mechanism responsible for developmental stage-specific regulation of γ<i>-globin</i> gene expression involves DNA methylation. Previous results have shown that the γ<i>-globin</i> promoter is nearly fully demethylated during fetal liver erythroid differentiation and partially demethylated during adult bone marrow erythroid differentiation.
