Leveraging Expertise and Bibliometrics to Promote Open Access Journal Publications - A Case Study

<p>Librarians were enlisted to provide recommendations for implementing the transition of a journal publication to an open access online platform. Faculty editors of the journal consulted with the librarians to define formatting and data requirements that would facilitate journal content transition, as well as maximize journal visibility and discoverability among a global community of researchers. The faculty editors relied heavily on librarian recommendations for optimizing website content layout, search functionality, standardized article identification, and indexing. Librarians also performed customized bibliometric analyses to explore how journal discoverability among target audiences might be enhanced. Analyses of author affiliation and networks, citation patterns, and article indexing were conducted to inform actionable strategies for improving the visibility of this journal in the open access environment. Collaboration highlights, and preliminary insights gained from bibliometric analysis, will be presented to illustrate how librarian expertise was leveraged to support faculty engaged in managing open access scholarship.
