The origin of contrasting single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior of three Mn<sup>II</sup><sub>2</sub>Mo<sup>III</sup> complexes based on [Mo<sup>III</sup>(CN)<sub>7</sub>]<sup>4–</sup> heptacyanomolybdate is analyzed; only the apical Mn<sub>2</sub>Mo isomer exhibits SMM properties with <i>U</i><sub>eff</sub> = 40.5 cm<sup>–1</sup> and <i>T</i><sub>B</sub> = 3.2 K, while the two equatorial isomers are simple paramagnets [Qian, K.; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2013, 135, 13302].
