<div><p>Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infects CD4<sup>+</sup> T cells and induces proliferation of infected cells <i>in vivo</i>, which leads to the onset of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) in some infected individuals.
