<p><b>A)</b> Percentage of cells of <i>S</i>. <i>enterica ΔcheR</i> harboring plasmid pUA1127 (wild type) and of <i>ΔsulA</i>, <i>recAo</i>, <i>lexA3</i>(Ind<sup>−</sup>) or <i>lexA3</i>(Ind<sup>−</sup>) <i>recAo</i> mutant derivatives that developed polar clusters while growing on swarming plates in the absence (-) or presence (+) of mitomycin C. The cells were harvested from the edge of the swarming colony growing on soft agar plates. When indicated, 0.08 μg mitomycin C/mL was added to the plates. The results are the mean of at least four independent imaging studies.
