The plastic deformation modes of martensite in an Fe-Ni-C alloy was investigated and the mechanical twins formed were studied using both optical and electron microscopy. Results show that compressing specimens containing martensite plates in an Fe-Ni-C alloy causes the formation of martensite deformation twin. It also indicates that the orientation of the midrib in high carbon martensite plates in Fe-Ni-C alloy is the same as either the deformation twin or the matrix. This implies that the midrib and the rest of the martensite plate containing it may be twin related
