Challenges facing ICT integration into teaching and learning in Public secondary schools in Mukurwe-ini sub-county

Diffusion of ICT through organization needs, needs to be effectively managed to better prepare for future ICT application adoption. The purpose of the study was to investigate challenges facing ICT integration in public secondary schools in Kenya, Mukurweini sub-county being the focus. The study sought to achieve the following objectives: To investigate whether cost of ICT training materials hinders the ICT in teaching and learning in selected Secondary schools in Mukurwe-ini Sub-county, to find out whether teacher skills in ICT influenced ICT in teaching and learning in selected Secondary schools in Mukurwe-ini Sub-county, to establish whether administrative support influences ICT in teaching and learning in selected Secondary schools in Mukurwe-ini Sub-county. The study was guided by the Linker’s management system management theory. A descriptive survey research design was utilized and the target population was students, secondary school teachers and administrators. The study employed purposive and multi-grade sampling techniques where the simple random sampling technique was first done at the school level. Purposive sampling was used to select administrators. Questionnaires and interview schedules were used to collect data, they were first tested for validity and reliability Data collected was coded, entered and analyzed quantitively using statistical package for social sciences computer program version 16. Qualitative data from interviews was analyzed using content analysis. The sample consisted of 120 students and 20 teachers. The data collected was analyzed. The study findings showed that the cost of ICT material, the lack of necessary ICT skills by teachers were a major challenge to ICT adoption. Poor support of ICT program by administrators was also revealed to be a major challenge in ICT integration. The study recommends that the Government should explore means of funding ICT materials and empowering teachers and administrators in ICT skills. The parents should expose ICT to their children from an early age by providing ICT materials both at home and in school
