Parent’s socio-economic status to primary school children’s Academic performance; case study of primary schools in Kenyewa Division Kajiado Kenya

The study was conceived on realization that primary school in Kenyewa Division Performed poorly in academics and Kenya certificate of Primary education results. The purpose of the research was to investigate the influence of level of education of parents, family income and parental marital status on academic performance of pupils in primary school in Kenyewa Division with view of recommending on how to improve pupils academic performance. The study was conducted in this area because in the last decade, academic performance has been alarmingly deteriorating hence posing a negative trend which may lead to the worst. The study was intended to achieve the following objectives, to investigate the influence of level of education of parents on academic performance of pupils in primary schools in kenyewa division to investigate the influence of family income on academic performance of pupils in primary school in Kenyewa division and establish the influence of parents marital status on academic performance of pupils in primary school i.e.The study adopted a cross sectional survey research design. Quantitative and qualitative approach of data collection was employed. A total of 120 respondent’s constituted the sample of study. These include 10 H/teachers 20 parents 10 teachers and 80 standard eight pupils. 5 head teachers, 10 parents, 5 teachers and 15 pupils were pretesting instrument of data collection and to ensure their validity and reliability.The research instruments that were employed were questioners, interviews, schedules, observation and focused group discussions. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analyzing.The MOE and other stakeholders with education interest may use the results to plan and design a professional development programme for parents a professional development programme for parents that will ensure that the students from primary school perform well academically
