Pure Ca<sub>2</sub>Ba<sub>3</sub>(PO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>3</sub>Cl and rare earth ion (Eu<sup>2+</sup>/Ce<sup>3+</sup>/Dy<sup>3+</sup>/Tb<sup>3+</sup>) doped Ca<sub>2</sub>Ba<sub>3</sub>(PO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>3</sub>Cl phosphors with the apatite structure have been prepared via a Pechini-type sol–gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and structure refinement, photoluminescence (PL) spectra, cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra, absolute quantum yield, as well as lifetimes were utilized to characterize samples.
