EA and UA avert the heme peroxidase-catalysed reaction.

<p>To perform spectral analysis, LPO (1 mg/ml, in 0.1M phosphate buffer) + H₂O₂ (30 μM) was incubated with either 50 μM of EA or UA. Spectra were recorded at 300 to 500 nm at every 3 seconds. Each spectrum represents an average of six scans. Image represents (A) LPO alone, (B) LPO + H₂O₂, (C) LPO + H₂O₂+ EA and (D) LPO + H₂O₂+ UA_. Arrows designate the direction of spectral changes over time on the initiation of the reaction. Kinetics of spectral changes were recorded upon addition of (E) EA or (F) UA or vehicle to LPO-H₂O₂ reaction. Results are representative of three independent experiments.
