Beat policing constitutes an important shift in the nature of operational policing. In recent years, there has been much interest expressed in expanding this form of policing throughout Queensland. Consequently, it is important that rigorous evaluations are conducted to allow policy makers to make informed decisions. In June 2002, Crime Prevention Queensland (CPQ) was asked by the Department of Premier and Cabinet to evaluate beat policing in this State.
