<p>The band-pass characteristics of the </p><p><b>L</b></p><sub>1</sub> filter, contrasted with the low-pass <p><b>L</b></p><sub>2</sub> read-out filter, are demonstrated by the distribution of four filter parameters (centroid in A, Q in B, AC/DC energy log-ratio in C, spectral slope in D) applied to all <p><b>L</b></p><sub>1</sub>/<p><b>L</b></p><sub>2</sub> estimates. Parameters are gathered from across all experiments (increment/decrement detection) and listeners. Vertical dashed lines in panels (B,C,D) mark transition from low-pass to high-pass for each given parameter (see <a href="http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005019#sec002" target="_blank">Materials and Methods</a> for details).<p></p
