<div><p>Background</p><p>Many U.S.-bound refugees travel from countries where intestinal parasites (hookworm, <i>Trichuris trichuria</i>, <i>Ascaris lumbricoides</i>, and <i>Strongyloides stercoralis</i>) are endemic. These infections are rare in the United States and may be underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, leading to potentially serious consequences.
