El objetivo de la investigación fue establecer la eficacia del la inmunoglobulina endovenosa en la enfermedad hemolítica por Rh del neonato. La investigación fue realizada en el servicio de Neonatología del Hospital Central "Dr. Urquinaona", Maracaibo, Venezuela, entre enero de 2007 y julio del 2010. Los neonatos fueron asignados al azar para recibir fototerapia más inmunoglobulina endovenosa (500 mg/kg de peso) en las primeras cuatro horas después del diagnóstico y por tres dosis consecutivas cada 12 horas (grupo A). El grupo control recibió únicamente fototerapia (grupo B).
