The depiction of the human body in shamanic rites amongst the Yanomami Tribes

Se presenta aquí los resultados del trabajo realizado sobre las implicaciones que el cuerpo posee en el ritual chamánico dentro de las comunidades yanomami de Mabetiteri y Mamashatioteri, ubicadas ambas en el Alto río Ocamo, estado Amazonas, Venezuela. En primer lugar planteamos la construcción social y cultural del cuerpo en movimiento; para seguidamente ubicar y delimitar el marco conceptual acerca de la concepción de la persona yanomami, la noción de hékura y de shapori. Seguidamente ofrecemos una descripción sobre el proceso del hékuramou, en donde el cuerpo ocupa un papel central como medio de representación y centramos la atención en la eficacia simbólica del ritual chamánico, orientado generalmente hacia la adivinación y la curación, en base al papel que, entre otros elementos, juega el cuerpo como vehículo de transformación y encarnación de seres sobrenaturales.7-30acuna@ugr.escuatrimestralThis paper presents the findings of research on the significance that human body movements convey in shamanic rituals amongst the Mabetiteri and Mamashatioteri communities of the Yanomami people located on the Alto Rio Ocamo in the State of Amazonas in Venezuela. Firstly we discuss the social and cultural paradigms within which the meanings that human body movement imply are conceived. We then establish the conceptualization of the persona by the Yanonami under categories known as hékura and shapori. We then go on to describe hékuramou, through which the body takes on a central role as the agent of manifestation of a power that is an effective cause rather than a physical. The shamanic ritual is usually oriented toward divination and healing, processes that are based on the part the body plays as a vehicle of transformation and incarnation for supernatural beings
