Comparative wood anatomy of Qualea and Ruizterania genus (Vochysiaceae)

Se presenta el estudio anatómico xilemático de once especies del género Qualea y cinco especies del género Ruizterania de la familia Vochysiaceae. Las especies estudiadas son las siguientes: Q. acuminata, Q. coerulea, Q. dinizii, Q. grandiflora, Q. homosepala, Q. impexa, Q. paraensis, Q. retusa, Q. rosea, Q. sellowii, Q. schomburgkiana, R. albiflora, R. ferruginea, R. esmeraldae, R. obtusata y R. rigida. La anatomía de la madera de ambos géneros es muy similar y no es posible separarlos con base a las características xilemáticas. Los caracteres mas utilizados, hasta ahora, para separar estos dos géneros se refieren a la presencia de cristales y sílice y de acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos en el presente estudio, no son elementos confiables de separación.69-81wleon@ula.veAnualThe objective of this research was to study wood anatomy of eleven species from Qualea and five species from Ruizterania genus of Vochysiaceae family. The species studied were Q. acuminata, Q. coerulea, Q. dinizii, Q. grandiflora, Q. homosepala, Q. impexa, Q. paraensis, Q. retusa, Q. rosea, Q. sellowii, Q. schomburgkiana, R. albiflora, R. ferruginea, R. esmeraldae, R. obtusata and R. rigida. Wood anatomy of Qualea and Ruizterania is very similar and these results suggest that its not possible differentiate both genus using xylem structure. According other studies, the features more useful for separation of both genus are presence of crystals and silica but this research show us that are not good features for separation
