<div><p>Background</p><p>The intestinal nematode <i>Trichuris trichiura</i> is among the most common causes of human infectious disease worldwide. As for other soil-transmitted nematodes, its reproductive success and thus prevalence and intensity of infection in a given area strongly depend on environmental conditions.
