<div>Plot illustrates Abbott et al.’s (2010) method of classifying hemispheric dominance from fMRI data. Laterality indices are calculated across a range of thresholds for each individual, and averaged across subjects from a normative control group. The laterality curve of the subject (blue) is then compared to that of the normative control group (black), using the lower 95% confidence interval for the control group (represented by the shaded area). Any individual whose curve falls below this interval is classed as atypically lateralised, on the basis of a low probability of their laterality data having come from the ‘population’ of the normative group.</div
