A survey of 553 Australian companies indicates that while many organizations have seen significant benefits from the application of such techniques as EDI, product numbering and bar-coding, their acceptance has been far from universal. Many organizations appear to have only implemented in response to requests (or directives) from trading partners. The development of the Internet is proposed to be the means by which electronic trading can be made more accessible and affordable, thus enabling broader adoption and acceptance of business-to-business electronic commerce.
