<p><i>Vc</i>IPK (closed symbols) and <i>Vc</i>IIPK (open symbols) activities in the presence of K<sup>+</sup> (■,□), Rb<sup>+</sup> (▲,△), NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> (●,○), Cs<sup>+</sup> (▼,▽), Na<sup>+</sup> (◆, ◇) or Li<sup>+</sup> (◀,◁) are shown. The reaction mixtures contained 25 mM HEPES pH 7.0, 0.2 mM NADH, 8 μg/ml LDH and TMACl in order to maintain the ionic strength at 300 and 450 mM in <i>Vc</i>IPK and <i>Vc</i>IIPK, respectively. In (A) the concentrations of PEP<sup>3-</sup>, ADP-Mg and Mg<sup>2+</sup><sub>free</sub> were 16 mM, 6.5 mM and 2 mM, respectively.
