<p>The box plot shows the distribution of mean <i>b</i> values in high R² areas. For each high R² area depicted in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0184057#pone.0184057.g001" target="_blank">Fig 1</a> we calculated the mean <i>b</i> value as the average <i>b</i> values obtained in GWR for each high R² 110 km x 100 km cell. The complete list of mean <i>b</i> values is in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0184057#pone.0184057.s002" target="_blank">S2 File</a>. The red dots are the overall effect sizes and the red bars indicate their confidence interval. Overall effect sizes (Fisher´s Z-transfrom, Zr: [<a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0184057#pone.0184057.ref066" target="_blank">66</a>]) took into account differences in the size of high R² areas, and were estimated using MetaWin v.2 [<a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0184057#pone.0184057.ref067" target="_blank">67</a>]. Beta coefficients greater than 1 were set at 0.99 for the calculations of effect sizes. TEMP = mean annual temperature, PREC = annual precipitation, ALTstd = standard deviation in elevation, TEMPr = temperature range, PRECcv = the coefficient of intra-annual variation in precipitation, AvPD = phylogenetic diversity.
