<p>Coronal sections of the head of conditional knockout (CKO, <i>Pdgfra</i><sup><i>Cre/ERT</i></sup>;<i>Pdgfra</i><sup><i>fl/fl</i></sup>) and control (Ctrl, <i>Pdgfra</i><sup><i>fl/fl</i></sup>) E18.5 embryos were processed for haematoxylin and eosin staining. In CKO embryos with cleft face, the nasal capsule failed to fuse, and the palatal shelf (asterisk) failed to form. The cranium failed to develop, the brain was covered with a thin skin and edema (arrowhead) was formed. Arrows indicated the eyelids.</p
