Research on the development of clustering of clean energy businesses and the social network that function within them has been sparse, particularly applications within the Appalachian region. This research addresses this knowledge gap by conducting case studies of potential Clean Energy Economy clustering in the Appalachian region of western North Carolina. Methods of this investigation include an analysis of energy policy at varying scales, SWOT analysis, and social network analysis ok key community stakeholders in Boon, Asheville, and Hickory-Lenoir, NC.
