The equilibrium longitudinal distribution of particles in a beam due to a localized 6 wake in electron storage rings is investigated. A mapping method is performed to show the dynamical behavior of the particle distribution by using the Gaussian approximation. It is shown that only the period-1 state exists stably. We also compare the result of the mapping method with that of multi-particle tracking. The results show qualitative agreement.X111sciescopuskciothe
