Flipping a Counseling Classroom: An Innovative Pedagogical Approach to Facilitate Applied Learning

The innovative pedagogy of flipping a class, (in which activities traditionally reserved for the classroom are done at home through technology, while application assignments usually done at home are brought into the classroom) is gaining interest in higher education. This presentation, will provide basic information on the concept and benefits of flipping, and then outline our work to “flip” a Master’s level counseling course. We will review the goals, tasks, and technology for our flip, and describe our research protocol for collecting data from students about the experience. Ideas for application in other disciplines will be discussed
