Employability skills for graduate quantity surveyors

Quantity Surveyor (QS) is one of the major resource persons of the construction industry diversifying its focus towards resource efficiency. Due to the dynamic nature of the industry, as profession it has shaped its path to suit and adjust for the threat and to grab the opportunities with wide hands. In this context, deploying skills and competencies attributable to the Quantity Surveying profession will obviously support for an exceptional performance in the arena. Thus, this paper is focus on the employability skills require for graduate QS to move forward hand in hand with the requirements of the present construction industry. An online questionnaire survey was carried out among employed Quantity Surveyors around the world and analyzed data by Relative Important Index (RII). Respondents’ perceptions were critically evaluated based on experience, country and organisation type. Findings revealed that traditionally accepted and eminent technical competencies are necessary for employability along with employability skills namely communication skills, team work skills and self-management skills.
