Türkiye'de kütüphane otomasyonu ve sorunları

Computers, as products of modern technology are being used extensively in libraries. The use of computers in libraries began in early 1960's and since than, the number of libraries applying computers in their services have increased rapidly. By using computers, libraries have achieved to work faster and mode productively. Hence, much wider user group are being able to receive library services. The aim of this study are; firstly; to identify what have been done in the field of library automation in general; secondly; to determine the extent of automation activities in research libraries in Turkey and finally to underline the reasons for the Turkish research libraries have not been able to use computers as effective as they are expected. As the result of this study we have came to conclusion that, the main reasons, for ineffective library automation are the lack of qualified personnel and the inadequacy of financial support. In addition to these, the lack of national organization to coordinate library automation activities has effected, negatively, the development library automation in Turkey
